I have had a lot of fun this past week working on my Black & White Photography. This past week I have already worked for 27.91 hours toward my senior project. I have taken many pictures this week both at home and on Proctor’s campus. Additionally, I have developed a roll of film. However, the developing process did not go as planned. Once I was done with the process the roll of film was transparent, meaning it could not be used in the darkroom. This was a little setback, but it also motivates me to do better on the next roll of film I develop. I plan to develop two rolls of film tomorrow (Monday) and I am going to be extra careful that I do the procedure correctly so the negatives work this time. Moreover, the lens on the original camera I was working with broke. I was able to overcome this challenge by switching it for a different film camera.

Overall this week, I have loved what I have been working on. I have enjoyed taking pictures of a variety of subjects. I have taken some portraits and landscapes, but have really focused on close-ups of nature. The weather at Proctor this week has worked in my favor. It has been very sunny this week which helps with the lighting in my pictures. I will benefit next week from my activities this week from all the pictures I have taken. The first week I used to get a variety of pictures and I plan on transforming them in the darkroom next week.

My goal for next week is to be able to develop the rolls of film successfully. Once I am able to do that I will be able to get to work in the darkroom. It will be good to complete this goal at the beginning of next week since the darkroom work can take a lot of time. This is because I can spend a lot of time tweaking little details in a photo to make it more interesting and presentable. I am proud of my photography work this week and I am excited to see what I create next week.

  5/11/2l Tuesday Today I started my senior project work at 8:00 am and finished at 2:15 pm for a total of 6 hours and 15 minutes today. I finished all the film on my camera by taking more pictures. I wound up the film that was in the camera to remove it. I removed the film and put it away into my locker. Before I go ahead and roll the film with pictures on it I wanted to practice a couple of times. The rolling process takes place in the dark since the film cannot be exposed to light prior to chemicals. I practiced with different film many times in the dark. The rolling of film is crucial to how the negatives turn out. I have to make sure there are no tears or wrinkles in the film. Since I haven’t practiced this skill in a while I wanted to make sure that I have mastered it before I move onto the film from my camera. B&W Photography 5/14/21

  5/14/21 Friday Written at 2:05 pm I got to work today at 8:00am and started with taking more photos. I got a new camera today because the lens on the camera I was using broke. I took pictures all morning and completed another roll of film. At 12:35 I took a lunch break and returned to work at 1:15. Today I did not feel the need to practice rolling film. Instead, I went right into rolling and actually was able to roll two films in a short amount of time. I put the films together in a large canaster because I hope to develop them together for a speedier process. I ended the day at 2:20pm which means I worked for 5.66 hours today. I have attached an image of my new camera down below.
